Chris Godwin’s wife, Mariah, shared her emotional reaction after the Buccaneers receiver suffered a season-ending knee injury in a loss to the Saints on Sunday.

“If you know Chris at all you know why this is just gut wrenching,” she wrote on her Instagram story Monday. “To be honest, it makes me wanna throw up & cry & smash a window all at once.”

Godwin tore his ACL when he took a hit from Saints’ defensive back P.J. Williams during Tampa Bay’s 9-0 loss to New Orleans. He also reportedly tore his MCL on the play.

Mariah indicated that Godwin isn’t taking the injury news well, sharing a photo of the couple’s dog with the caption, “Piggy does not like seeing Chris like this.”

She wrote, “This man loves his team and loves what he does and f–king LOVES working to be the greatest he can possibly be.”

Mariah, who married the Pro Bowl receiver in May, cooked vegetable soup for Godwin after news of his injury “so we can get nutrients in Chris’ body.”

She said the couple is taking things “one day at a time” and that they feel positive about his recovery.

“It’s time to grow. It’s time to build back even better,” she wrote. “You’re only down if you stay down & it’s no staying down around here. Nothing but progress positivity & poise. I got you & I love you @chrisgodwin.”

Godwin, the Bucs’ leading pass-catcher, was playing on the franchise tag in 2021. He ended the season with 98 catches for 1,103 yards and five TDs.

The Buccaneers have multiple injuries at the wide receiver position, including Mike Evans, who left Sunday’s game with a hamstring injury.

Leonard Fournette, a running back and the team’s fourth-leading receiver on the season, exited the game in the second half with a hamstring injury and did not return.

Head coach Bruce Arians said Evans’ return is unclear, “but soon.”

The Bucs also plan to get back Antonio Brown after his three-game suspension for COVID-19 violations.

Tampa Bay will travel to Carolina to play the Panthers on Sunday.
