The Indianapolis Colts have been a major letdown early in the NFL season.

After sending Carson Wentz out of town and installing Matt Ryan at quarterback, the Colts were a sexy pick to win the AFC South.

Instead, they’re 0-1-1, having tied the Texans in Week 1 before getting obliterated 24-0 by the Jaguars on Sunday.

“The s–t was embarrassing,” Colts defensive tackle DeForest Buckner told reporters after the game. “We got our ass whooped. We have to come in tomorrow, take it on the chin and grow from this.”

The Colts were banged up and missing wideout Michael Pittman, but any game in which the offense scores zero points is a heavy disappointment.

Ryan completed 16 of his 30 attempts for 195 yards and no touchdowns, and tossed three interceptions.

“I certainly had high expectations coming in,” Ryan said. “And you certainly don’t think you’re going to be 0-1-1. That’s just not in the competitor’s mindset. We are where we are, and I think being realistic about where we’re at is important. It has to be brutal honesty.”

Running back Nyheim Hines also called the game embarrassing.

“We let our coach down,” Hines said. “We let the state of Indiana down … It was honestly just embarrassing.”

Coach Frank Reich called it a pathetic performance.

“Rough day,” Reich said. “They outplayed us, outcoached us. We’ll learn from it and we’ll get better and we’ll pick ourselves up off the mat. Obviously a very poor showing in every way.”

He said later: “We’re two games into it. We’re 0-1-1. It’s a long season. We’ll take our medicine for the pathetic performance today.”

The good news for the Colts is that the AFC South does not have a runaway favorite. The Texans are also 0-1-1. The Jaguars are 1-1. The Titans are 0-1 and are 9.5-point underdogs in Buffalo on Monday night.

They obviously need to play better, but they haven’t yet dug themselves into too deep a hole to overcome.
