Will insane training video get Ray Rice over NFL hump?
The Ray Rice scandal is now a federal case.
The House Judiciary Committee is weighing in on the explosive domestic violence case with a letter to NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell asking for “transparency” on the issue, according to TMZ.
The letter, signed by 12 members of the committee, raises questions about Goodell’s attempt to acquire the smoking-gun video that shows Rice slugging his then-fiancee in an Atlantic City casino hotel elevator.
Goodell claims he did not see the footage before imposing a paltry two-game suspension on the Baltimore Ravens running back.
“To our knowledge the public has not been informed as to specifically how and in what context the request was made, and specifically how relevant law enforcement responded,” the committee said in the letter.
“Nor has there been a full explanation as to whether the video was requested of others, such as Mr. Rice’s attorney or the casino where the incident occurred (and if not, why not), or whether any employees, agents, or consultants of the league or any of its teams outside of your office had access of the video prior to September 8.”
An NFL spokesman has said that prosecutors denied league executives a copy of the video, although it was apparently available from other sources.
