Cooper Kupp, reigning Super Bowl MVP and NFL Offensive Player of the Year, wants a nice contract from the Rams but doesn’t intend to hold them over a barrel.

This offseason has been a bonanza for talented wide receivers, with Davante Adams and Tyreek Hill signing record deals.

On Tuesday, Kupp, who led all NFL wideouts with 145 catches for 1,947 yards and 16 touchdowns in 2021, was asked if he wants to be the highest paid wide receiver in the league, and he didn’t aspire to be quite in that stratosphere.

“I don’t think that’s the approach that I take,” he said at the start of Los Angeles’ offseason workout program. “There’s a place you want to be. There’s a place that I think is fair.”

“I’m not trying to beat anybody,” he continued. “I’m not trying to compare myself to anyone else.”

It would be human nature for Kupp to compare himself to Adams and Hill, but it also bears mentioning that at least in Hill’s case he had to leave an elite offense and quarterback in Kansas City to get it in Miami.

Kupp, 28, has played five seasons for the Rams and is set to make $14.25 million in 2022 and $14.5 million in 2023.
