Dak Prescott says he’ll be “good to go.”
The Cowboys quarterback declared himself available for Sunday’s crucial duel with the Eagles despite being limited in practice Thursday for the second day in a row due to an injury to his throwing shoulder.
“Yeah, it’s frustrating. I’m a guy that likes to be in the action. I don’t like to sit back, don’t like to take any reps off,” Prescott told reporters Thursday. “Same preparation in the game plan if not doubling down since I don’t get those physical reps.”
Prescott is dealing with lingering AC joint swelling, which has plagued him since his college days at Mississippi State. The injury was aggravated when he was tackled by Rams linebacker Clay Matthews on a 7-yard run early in the Cowboys’ 44-21 win on Sunday. Prescott was able to finish the game without issue, but complained of shoulder soreness afterward.
“It’s just annoying,” he said. “It’s nagging. Dealt with a lot more pain. So it’s just nagging.”
Prescott’s comments come one day after head coach Jason Garrett said Prescott was having trouble “functioning.”
“I mean, I’m getting better,” Prescott said. “It’s as simple as that. The mobility, the function of it, it’s all improving. That’s the key. That’s the goal.”
Prescott, 26, has not missed a game through four seasons in the NFL. Garrett lauded Prescott’s resilience and called him “as tough as they come.”
Teammate Ezekiel Elliot said he has dealt with the same AC joint issue and couldn’t imagine throwing with it. Cowboys backup quarterback Cooper Rush has been taking first-team reps in case Prescott isn’t able to go Sunday. Rush, 26, has not thrown a pass during a regular-season game since 2017.
The Cowboys are tied with the Eagles at 7-7 atop the NFC East. The winner of Sunday’s showdown will almost certainly claim the division title and a spot in the playoffs.
