If Damontre Moore wants to continue to raise his fist at the conclusion of the national anthem, it won’t be on the Cowboys sidelines.

Moore was one of two remaining Cowboys who protested during the anthem after owner Jerry Jones implored his players to stop, and Moore is no longer on the team. The defensive end was cut on Wednesday to make room for kicker Mike Nugent.

Head coach Jason Garrett denied Moore’s release had anything to with non-football reasons. Moore also was reportedly involved in a nightclub altercation Thursday night, according to the Dallas Morning News, though the Cowboys believe he wasn’t at fault.

“We had to make a roster move and we just felt like the best decision for our team was to release Damontre Moore,” said Garrett, who gave a flat “No” when asked if there were any other reason for Moore’s cutting.

Moore, who spent his first few seasons with the Giants before signing with the Cowboys this year, was suspended the first two games of this season for violating the league’s substance abuse policy. He was inactive Sunday; in three games in between, he registered seven tackles.

Now the only one who had continued the protest is defensive lineman David Irving. Jones, inspired by President Trump’s all-out assault, had threatened to bench any Cowboys player who protested during the anthem.
