MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. — Daniel Jones is hurt, the Giants can’t move the ball and the disastrous end of the 2021 season might soon look like the good old days.

If the speedy Dolphins piling up 524 yards and blowing past cement-footed defenders wasn’t insulting enough … if the Giants failing to score an offensive touchdown for the third time in five games wasn’t insulting enough … if Adoree’ Jackson not being on the field when the game-breaking touchdown was scored due to an equipment malfunction wasn’t insulting enough … add the concern for a serious injury to the devastating toll of the Giants’ 31-16 loss.

Jones did not play the final 12 minutes after suffering a neck injury Sunday — reminiscent of the one that sidelined him for the final six games in 2021 — when it turned out that his 28th sack absorbed in five games this season behind a nonfunctional offensive line was too much to withstand.

“I’ve certainly dealt with a similar issue,” Jones said, calling to mind when the Giants went 0-6 without him in 2021, averaged 9.3 points per game and got head coach Joe Judge fired.

The Giants (1-4) have a lot of familiar issues.

The offensive line allowed seven sacks and 14 quarterback hits.

Left tackle Josh Ezeudu — a backup guard unenviably tasked with replacing All-Pro Andrew Thomas — committed three penalties on one drive that resulted in a field goal, but he wasn’t pulled for Matt Peart until he allowed the sack that left Jones hurting.

“I was late off the ball, and in the NFL you can’t be late off the ball,” a teary-eyed Ezeudu said. “And I just hope that D.J. is OK. I just told him, ‘I’m sorry.’ ”

The game was long out of reach by then.

The Dolphins (4-1) generated touchdown drives of 75, 75, 89 and 94 yards — but “drives” might be generous considering two of those possessions both took three plays and less than one minute.

Tyreek Hill caught eight passes for 181 yards, De’Von Achane carried 11 times for 151 and the Dolphins averaged 11.4 yards per play through three quarters using a game plan of sweeps, bubble screens and other quick throws that turned the game into a track meet.

“You get big guys on the edges, running sideways, changing directions,” safety Jason Pinnock said. “Probably the fastest [team] in the league.”

The Giants are the slowest starters in the league. No doubt about that much.

The game would’ve been a blowout sooner if not for Pinnock’s 102-yard interception return for a touchdown that swung the game from a possible 21-3 deficit to a manageable 14-10 late in the first half. It was the second of three takeaways for the Giants, who entered the game with none through four games.

The play — made possible by linebacker Bobby Okereke’s deflection — left Pinnock with half as many points scored as the Giants’ offense has managed (12) in the first halves of five games this season.

Actually, the Giants only have 24 offensive points outside of their 31-point second-half explosion in a comeback win against the Cardinals.

“I try to let the defensive players know that as an offense, we have to do more to help you out,” said tight end Darren Waller, who collected a team-high eight catches for 86 yards but had a potential touchdown knocked out of his hands. “Twenty-four points in nine halves is unacceptable.”

Then again … the Giants are having trouble just gaining first downs when averaging 3.9 yards per play with Jones scrambling for survival and Saquon Barkley missing three straight games.

Even backup quarterback Tyrod Taylor nearly had to miss a play for “getting the wind knocked out of him” on a big hit, but was given the benefit of the two-minute warning.

“[Daniel] has been getting hit quite a bit,” head coach Brian Daboll said. “We have to figure out a way to protect him better.”

The mirage of a close game lasted until the first minute of the third quarter, when Hill beat a confused defense for a 69-yard touchdown to open up a 24-10 lead.

Jackson was late out of the locker room because the chin strap of his helmet was broken and rookie Tre Hawkins raced from one side of the field to the other to match up with Hill just before the snap and then quickly was left in the dust by the NFL’s fastest player.

“That might’ve been one of the craziest scenarios,” Jackson said, explaining that the issue couldn’t have been noticed sooner. “When I get out [to the sideline], I’m like, ‘Oh, it’s third down. Cool. We’re about to get off the field. I look and see the ball and I’m like, ‘Oh s–t.’ ”

The Giants must prevent that last two-word phrase from becoming the theme of their season.

“It really doesn’t feel like a deep hole, honestly,” defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence said. “We respect each other. That’s not how we roll, to point fingers.”
