DeAndre Baker is now permitted to travel outside the state of Florida “for work purposes,” according to a circuit court ruling in Broward County.
Baker, the Giants’ 22-year-old cornerback, must provide to the court “a detailed itinerary of the activities he will partake in while out of the state.” He must also provide the address he will reside in while out of the state and the dates of his travel and return.
Baker is facing four counts of armed robbery with a firearm and four counts of aggravated assault stemming from an alleged incident the night of May 13 at a house party in Miramar, Fla. Baker could be facing a mandatory minimum of 15 years in prison for each of the four armed robbery charges. He entered pleas of not guilty on all eight charges against him. One of his attorney’s Patrick Patel, told The Post he is confident all charges against Baker will be dismissed.
There is no reason Baker immediately needs to be back in New Jersey. Only players rehabbing from injuries are allowed to enter the Giants’ facility, as part of NFL COVID-19 protocol. New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy announced on Tuesday professional sports teams can open up their facilities, in accordance with state guidelines.
The Giants are holding their offseason program remotely, via Zoom calls, and instructed Baker to stay off the calls as he attends to his legal issues. If the case is dismissed, Baker is expected to be welcomed back into the program by the Giants.
