Eagles fans are being condemned for doing the “wave” at Lincoln Financial Field on Thursday as injured Philadelphia receiver Tyrie Cleveland was being taken off on a stretcher during the team’s preseason game against the Browns.

Cleveland, a former seventh-round pick by the Broncos in 2020, went down awkwardly on his neck in the third quarter of the contest as he went up to make a catch.

The wideout remained down on the ground for several minutes as medical staff tended to him.

As the scene unfolded, fans at the Philadelphia stadium could be seen doing the “wave” in videos, igniting a fury of criticism on social media.

“Eagles fans are doing the wave while one of their own players is down on the field, needing to be taken off on a stretcher. Come on, Philly. Be better,” digital producer Kevin Accettulla posted.

Another posted, “Actually a horrible look, what are we doing.”

Jamie Apody of WPVI-TV in Philadelphia, who initially posted a video of the incident, remarked, “Philly fans are the BEST. The MOST passionate. That’s why this surprised me SO MUCH! I do think it’s very plausible they were lulled into a daze by a lackluster game and didn’t quite realize the severity of the injury. But it definitely did go on too long into it.”

An Eagles fan also chimed in, stating, “As someone who was there. The wave started before the play ended nobody saw him down when it started.”

The Eagles later confirmed that Cleveland, fortunately, has movement in all of his extremities.

As the game continued, however, injuries continued to pile up for the home team.

Eagles defensive tackle Moro Ojomo also suffered a neck injury in the second half and was carted off.

The team has since announced that Ojomo, a rookie out of Texas, has movement in all of his extremities.

The game concluded in an 18-all tie.

The Eagles, the defending NFC champions, will open the 2023 season against the Patriots on Sunday, Sept. 10.
