Eli OK after tests

Eli Manning came out of the 35-14 loss to the Browns complaining of pain in his chest area after he completed a pass and was landed on in the second quarter by 350-pound Shaun Rogers. It was enough to concern Tom Coughlin but Manning says he’s fine.
“I went in to the hospital, had an MRI and X-rays, nothing major, nothing that’s going to keep me out this week,” Manning said on his weekly radio show. “We have practice [today], I’ll be at practice going full speed. Nothing broken, no sprains, nothing with the shoulder. It’s all in the left side anyway. I have good movement, I have my strength, it’s just a little banged up. Nothing that should cause anything to my throwing motion at all.”
Manning, who threw three interceptions in his first poor performance of the season, did not miss a play and said he’s ”just a little sore” and that the mammoth Rogers “kind of gave me a good little hit and kind of power drove me into the ground.”
With a short week following the Monday night game, the Giants are back at practice late tomorrow afternoon.
“I know Eli has played very well with soreness and that type of thing,” Coughlin said. “I’m sure that will be something he’ll be able to go ahead and practice and play with.”
Asked if the hit affected Manning’s play the remainder of Monday’s game, Coughlin said, “I don’t know that it was but I can’t tell you it wasn’t. He’s certainly very good as masking all of that.
“From time to time throughout anybody’s career that plays that position you’re going to have some things that don’t allow you to perform at your best.”
As far as the other injuries from the game, safety James Butler has a strained bicep, linebacker Gerris Wilkinson has a mild MCL knee strain, and linebacker Antonio Pierce tweaked his quad strain.
Coughlin described the poor performance by his team this way: “We fell into some type of mental lapse, something we’re going to have to get straightened around.”
Super Bowl hero David Tyree, who was on the physically unable to perform list with a knee injury, has been cleared to begin practicing. He is expected to do so tomorrow.
