Ereck Flowers is ready to make the most of his second chance under Tom Coughlin’s watch.
After clearing waivers last week, following his release from the Giants after four seasons, the offensive tackle was snatched up by the Jaguars, and already finds Jacksonville to be a “better fit.”
“Great opportunities, great team and I’m happy to be here,” the draft bust said, according to Jacksonville.com. “Definitely a fresh start for me. I like it here, man. I think this will be a better fit. They have a great locker room, great guys. I’m grateful to be here.”
Flowers failed to live up to expectations after being selected with the ninth pick in 2015. Moved from left to right tackle by first-year Giants head coach Pat Shurmur this offseason, Flowers was benched in favor of Chad Wheeler ahead of the team’s lone victory, against the Texans on Sept. 23.
“I expected [the release], it wasn’t a shock to me,” Flowers said. “I actually was looking forward to another opportunity. To go from that situation to getting a chance to play here and [possibly] get into the playoffs, that would be 100 percent perfect. That would be like, ‘wow.'”
Though Flowers sat out during Sunday’s 40-7 loss to Dallas, he could get a chance to start this week against Houston.
“Make no mistake about it, if we feel someone can help us or making a change is better for us, then we will do that,” coach Doug Marrone said. “That is everywhere. It is hard when the whole team is not playing well.”
