As the seat beneath Mike Maccagnan suddenly heated up around the NFL draft, Joe Douglas purportedly began reaching out to prospective employees in case he ended up filling the Jets’ GM job.

Turns out Todd McShay may have been contacted.

The popular ESPN football analyst cryptically declared that “Joe is considering multiple options,” for a front office job, “and I’m one of them,” according to the outlet’s Jets section. The specifics of the role McShay says he’s being considered to fill are unknown. The two are expected to rendezvous this week.

Douglas, who was hired by the Jets on Friday, spent two years with McShay as teammates at Richmond in the late 1990s. Neither played professionally, but led successful careers in their respective paths; Douglas in NFL front-offices and McShay the television studio.

It’s unclear how much their history together will factor in Douglas’ decision. Of course Douglas was initially tagged the front-runner for the Jets’ general manager gig, not only for his exploits, but also for having worked with head coach Adam Gase for the Bears in 2015.
