Fantasy football managers, whether they won or lost in Week 6, are getting some good news and getting some great news to start their week.
The good news is that there were no injuries that left their team in as horrendous shape as the previous two weeks did. Sure, there were some bumps and bruises, but nothing debilitating. As for the great news, just take a look at your waiver wire this week and check out those beautiful, rookie wide receivers just waiting for you to claim.
If you need a wide receiver for Week 7, look no further than Indianapolis Colts rookie Alec Pierce, who caught three passes for 49 yards, including a 32-yard touchdown that iced the game in the closing seconds. The youngster is now averaging nearly seven targets and 68 receiving yards per game over his past four and has become a reliable target as the Colts’ third wide receiver.
His snap count continues to increase each week, which will only result in more opportunities on the field. Best of all, the guy is rostered in around just 38 percent of leagues on Yahoo and just 25 percent on ESPN.
Alec Pierce USA TODAY SportsIf you need a deeper dive, then it’s time to pay attention to Tyquan Thornton of the Patriots. His two-touchdown performance in Week 6 will certainly turn some heads when your waiver wire opens, but rightfully so, as this team is in dire need of a reliable wideout to work alongside Jakobi Meyers and DeVante Parker.
Thornton, who is rostered in fewer than 1 percent of leagues on both Yahoo and ESPN, is already starting to see an uptick in snaps and targets, and it’s not only because Nelson Agholor is hurt. Thornton seemingly passed right by veteran Kendrick Bourne and is ready to take his game to the next level.
In weeks where there are few injuries to report, your waiver selections become even more important. Don’t waste them chasing last week’s points from players who are one-week wonders like Ben Skowronek. Both Pierce and Thornton are on the rise for legitimate reasons, and with more bye weeks ahead, their value is already starting to climb.
