Dalvin Cook and Chris Godwin were among those injured Sunday during Week 15 of the NFL season.
Here’s a recap of the injuries to players across the league and how it could impact fantasy football:
Dalvin Cook, RB, Minnesota Vikings (shoulder)
Cook was helped off the field during the third quarter of Sunday’s game against the Chargers after suffering an injury to the same shoulder he injured during Week 13. He went to the medical tent and was ruled out immediately for return. Cook was visibly in pain, and there’s a good chance he misses time, which would be a huge blow for the Vikings and fantasy owners entering the finals. He finished the game with nine carries for 27 yards and three catches for 16 yards.
Alexander Mattison was Cook’s handcuff, but he missed the game with an ankle injury. Mike Boone and Ameer Abdullah are next up in the Minnesota backfield. Boone, a second-year undrafted free agent from Cincinnati, had 13 carries for 56 yards and two touchdowns, while Abdullah had five carries for 25 yards. Of the two, Boone, who is rostered in 2% of leagues, would be the one to own if Cook is out for Week 16.
Chris Godwin, WR, Tampa Bay Buccaneers (hamstring)
Godwin was carted off the field during the second half of Sunday’s game against the Lions after suffering a non-contact hamstring injury. He was quickly ruled out for return. Head coach Bruce Arians said after the game that Godwin’s injury “doesn’t look good,” the same words he used to describe Mike Evans’ season-ending hamstring injury last week. Godwin finished with five catches on seven targets for 121 yards.
Godwin’s injury came minutes after Scotty Miller suffered a hamstring injury as well. Breshad Perriman stepped up in a big way and caught five of six targets for 113 yards and three touchdowns. Rostered in just 10% of leagues, Perriman will be a popular waiver add next week.
J.D. McKissic, RB, Detroit Lions (stinger)
McKissic suffered a stinger during Sunday’s game against the Buccaneers and was ruled out for return. He had one rush for 2 yards and two catches for 7 yards.
With Bo Scarbrough inactive for Week 15 with a rib injury, McKissic was supposed to play a bigger role. Kerryon Johnson is eligible for return from injured reserve in Week 16 and appears to be trending in a positive direction. Ty Johnson and Wes Hill, who was promoted from the practice squad on Saturday, would back up Kerryon should he be healthy next week.
Scotty Miller, WR, Tampa Bay Buccaneers (hamstring)
Miller re-aggravated a hamstring injury during the first quarter of Sunday’s game that had kept him sidelined for the previous two games. He was ruled doubtful for return after he caught all three of his targets for 49 yards and a touchdown.
