For the majority of fantasy football leagues, the regular season ends here in Week 13. Whether you have a playoff berth locked in or you’re fighting for one, this week should be considered a must-win. As such, every point counts, and having a dead spot in your lineup could make or break your season.
Since there is only one Travis Kelce, chances are your tight end spot has been dead for much of the season. You’re certainly not finding help for that position this week, so your focus needs to be on your third wideout or flex, depending on roster requirements. Find the right low-end wideout, and you can shock the league.
When people think about the rookie wide receivers this year, they turn to Justin Jefferson, CeeDee Lamb and Tee Higgins. All three have either met or exceeded expectations, but none are likely available to you. But if you check in on the availability of Henry Ruggs, there is a good chance he is available.
Ruggs may only be averaging three targets per game this season, but he and Derek Carr have started to really connect over the last few games, and Carr seems to be looking for him more and more downfield. His seven catches on 10 targets over the last three games makes you feel the breakout is coming, and with a matchup against the hapless Jets, Ruggs has a very strong chance to break for a long touchdown this week. It also helps that Nelson Agholor is banged up, which should mean more targets for the rookie.
If Ruggs isn’t available, check out Seattle’s David Moore. Everyone focuses so much on DK Metcalf and Tyler Lockett, they forget Moore has five touchdowns this season. Moore faces a soft Giants secondary that ranks dead last against the opposition’s third receiving option. He’s locked down nine red-zone targets this season, and Isaac Yiadom, who will be covering him, allows the 10th-most fantasy points per route in the league.
We see Hail Marys thrown all the time in desperate situations. Why should fantasy be any different? Take that long shot downfield, and see if you can catch the rest of your league sleeping.
