The Jets keep proving Vegas and the doubters wrong. Thirteen-point underdogs? No big deal. Five wins for the season? Already topped that. These Jets are legit.
Not sure a soul picked the Jets on Sunday to beat the 6-1 Bills. Not sure a soul picked the Jets to make the playoffs. At 6-3 with eight games to go, the Jets enter the bye as a true playoff contender and are even in the race for the AFC East.
Enjoy the well-deserved week off because the push for a playoff spot begins after and it won’t be easy.
To react to the Jets’ 20-17 win over the Bills at a sold out MetLife Stadium Sunday, we bring you a new episode of the “Gang’s All Here” podcast with Brian Costello and me. - IMPROBABLE WIN: Everyone took the Bills. Vegas had the Jets as 13-point underdogs. There were tons of Bills fans at MetLife Stadium Sunday in an almost 50-50 crowd. The Jets are already at 6-3, hitting the over on a 5.5-game win total Vegas set. They keep proving the doubters wrong. What a victory.
- COZ’S TAKE: The Jets have set up a legit playoff push for the final eight games of the season after the bye. The Jets have set their winning formula: Run game + great defense + turnover-free Zach Wilson. Lots of credit needs to go to the offensive line for pushing around the Bills defense: “They kicked ass on Sunday.”
- GROUND AND POUND: It was the James Robinson and Michael Carter Show and they ran eight times on that last drive. There was only one pass attempt. Mike LaFleur deserves a lot of credit. He ran the ball and mixed in a few screens and a reverse attempt with Garrett Wilson.
- JETS’ ELITE DEFENSE: Hard to argue this is not a top-three defense. This could be the best defense in the NFL. This is Revis/Cromartie type stuff from Sauce Gardner and D.J. Reed. They were able to fluster Josh Allen.
- JAKE’S STATE OF THE JETS: This team has been so much fun to watch and cover. There’s been so many storylines with some obstacles and adversity mixed between. This isn’t the same old Jets. This team should make the playoffs.
- UPCOMING SCHEDULE: Bill Belichick is going to dare Zach Wilson to beat them. They know the Jets will try and run as much as possible. The Bears won’t be easy either, but MetLife will be packed with Jets fans. Also, we forgot to mention the SkyCam until the end — what happened there?
- FAN REACTIONS: We end the podcast hearing from Jets fans. After the game, I walked around outside MetLife Stadium to hear from the fan base about what it thinks about the win and this Jets team.
