Geno Smith practiced fully Wednesday and he might be the Jets backup quarterback for Sunday’s Jets-Eagles game.

This was Smith’s first full practice since his jaw was broken on Aug. 11. Coach Todd Bowles said Smith could be active Sunday, but he is not sure yet.

“It’s possible,” Bowles said. “It’s between him and Bryce [Petty]. We’ll see how much he learns this week. One of them will be the number two quarterback. He could be.”

Bowles said Smith and Petty split reps with the scout team on Wednesday. Bowles said he needs to see Smith practice before determining whether he can be the backup to Ryan Fitzpatrick.

“If Bryce is playing better at that time and Geno doesn’t have a grasp of everything we’re trying to put in, it will be Bryce,” Bowles said. “If Geno has a grasp of everything and he looks good and he feels good about it, we’ll go with Geno.”

Smith has attended meetings since the week after former Jets linebacker IK Enemkpali punched him, so he should not be behind mentally.

“He just has to get the physical reps and get used to being out there again,” Bowles said. “But his mental side has been sharp. He was sharp when he was out there today.”
