Geno Smith has lost his starting job, but not his confidence.

The Jets quarterback said even though he is on the bench now, he does not think the window is closing on his chance to be a starter with the Jets.

“The window and all that stuff? I’m 24 years old,” Smith said. “Whoever wants to say that, they can say that. But I know that I have a lot of football left in me, and I will get a chance.”

Smith said he was not surprised Jets coach Todd Bowles said this week he was sticking with Ryan Fitzpatrick even when Smith is healthy enough to play, which could be as soon as this Sunday. He understands the team is 2-0 and humming with Fitzpatrick under center.

“You want to be out there [playing] — you’re not happy,” Smith said. “But it’s not one of those things where I’m going to change my approach, going to change the way I approach teammates or the way we go about our business.

“It’s the decision. I understand it. I’m not bitter about it, I understand why. And just, like I said, just go out there and keep supporting my guys, keep supporting my teammates, and that’s what I’ll do.”

Smith said he found out Bowles was staying with Fitzpatrick when the coach told the media Tuesday, but he was not upset.

“No, I didn’t mind,” Smith said. “It’s not a big deal. It’s just how it went.”
