The Giants in free agency finally added a player on the offensive side of the ball, but do not expect much ball-handling from fullback/tight end Will Johnson, who spent his first four NFL seasons with the Steelers.

Johnson on Monday agreed to a two-year deal with the Giants, who had concentrated solely on defensive help in free agency up until now. They picked up another, signing Ryan Seymour, a guard who played in 11 games in 2014 for the Browns and also has spent time with the 49ers and Saints.

Johnson, 27, is durable, playing in 63 of 64 regular-season games in his four years in Pittsburgh, and he converted from fullback to tight end even though he is only 6-foot-2 and 240 pounds. He likely will be looked at as a blocking tight end with the Giants and also could be a blocking option at fullback, providing competition and perhaps an upgrade from Nikita Whitlock, who did not see many offensive snaps in Ben McAdoo’s offense in 2015.

The Giants have four young tight ends — Will Tye, Larry Donnell, Jerome Cunningham and Matt LaCosse — but none can be considered a legitimate blocking threat. The Giants had one last season in Daniel Fells, but the veteran played in only two games before going down with a frightening MRSA infection in his ankle and foot, a medical scare that likely will end his career. The shabby running game was hurt badly by Fells’ absence.

In four seasons, Johnson has 31 receptions for 235 yards and two touchdowns. He also has one rushing TD. Johnson’s playing time with the Steelers decreased last season with the emergence of Roosevelt Nix. Johnson no doubt also was attractive to the Giants with the versatility he showed on special teams with the Steelers.

Seymour, 26, has ties to new Giants offensive line coach Mike Solari as the two worked together in 2013 with the 49ers. Seymour will add depth and competition this summer at a position of need as the Giants are thin at guard.

The Giants on Monday took a look at Kelvin Sheppard, a 28-year old middle linebacker, who came in for a visit. Sheppard, a five-year veteran who has been with the Bills and Colts, started 13 games last season for the Dolphins. Sheppard had a career-high 105 tackles in 2015.

The Giants also agreed to terms on a one-year deal with Dillon Farrell, a 25-year old guard who played in eight games for the 49ers in 2014 and spent time in 2015 on the Titans practice squad.
