HERO

Jon Kitna is 38 and hadn’t thrown a pass in the regular season in two years when he took over for the injured Tony Romo late last month, but you wouldn’t have known it from his spry performance yesterday. Kitna absolutely lit up the NFL’s No. 1-ranked defense, throwing for 327 yards and three touchdowns.

UNSUNG HERO

The Cowboys were clinging to a 9-3 lead midway through the second quarter when rookie cornerback Bryan McCann — of all people — stepped up with a 101-yard interception return for a touchdown that doubled as the longest such runback in Dallas’ storied history. McCann got a big assist on the play from Hakeem Nicks, who gave up on the short slant from Eli Manning.

ZERO

Take your pick between Giants cornerbacks — Terrell Thomas was simply abused by Cowboys rookie Dez Bryant (three catches for 104 yards and a touchdown), but Corey Webster wasn’t much better when it came to keeping up with Miles Austin and Roy Williams as Dallas completed a staggering six passes of 30 or more yards. And don’t forget punter Matt Dodge, who was dreadful with an average of 32 yards on four attempts.

KEY MOMENT

Two plays after the first of two separate stadium power outages early in the third quarter, the Giants appeared to lose Felix Jones in the darkness as the Cowboys running back sprinted 71 yards untouched on a simple screen pass for a backbreaking touchdown that made it 26-6 — a mountain far too big for Big Blue to climb.
