Observations from Giants training camp on Thursday.
Slay ride
WR Darius Slayton needs to put together an impressive summer to stay relevant in an offense that has added weapons. During one team period, Slayton had three consecutive receptions from Daniel Jones. Slayton was not perfect — he later had a drop — but he turned in solid work against the Browns’ secondary.
Penalty faze
Rookie CB Rodarius Williams came up with a nifty pass breakup on WR JoJo Natson. That was good. Then Williams stepped over Natson, clearly an act of taunting that would have gotten him penalized during a game. Defensive coordinator Patrick Graham and defensive backs coach Jerome Henderson gave Williams an earful.
Caught my eye
This is the sort of work that can either make or break a young player. Second-year CB Darnay Holmes goes against WR Sterling Shepard when the Giants practice back home. On this day, Holmes got a steady run of snaps against Jarvis Landry, a different type of receiver. Landry got the better of the young defensive back, at times cutting off routes to break wide open.
Cleveland Browns wide receiver Jarvis Landry goes out for a pass against New York Giants cornerback Darnay Holmes. APMedical report
WR Kenny Golladay (hamstring) caught passes while standing still, but once again did not participate in any drills. RB Saquon Barkley (knee) and WR Kadarius Toney (post-COVID) continue to rehab with trainers, and they will not take part in any live action versus the Browns.
