Joe Webb is visiting the Giants and could sign after passing through COVID-19 protocols. In a nine-year NFL career, he has 159 pass attempts, 50 rushes, 10 receptions and 18 kickoff returns.

“He’s the perfect guy to come in in this COVID environment,” said special teams coordinator Thomas McGaughey, who coached Webb with the Carolina Panthers, “because he can do so many different jobs.”

Adding Webb ensures the Giants are not caught ill-prepared if they wind up in a situation like the quarterback-less Denver Broncos endured last week. Receiver Golden Tate, a passer on trick plays, might’ve been next up against the Bengals if McCoy got injured after Jones.

“It’s one of those things that sounds really cool as you are talking about it, but once it becomes potentially realistic it’s like, ’Oh!. Oh! It’s going to be scary,’” Tate said. “I was ready, but I was not prepared. Hopefully it doesn’t get there.”
