Owa Odighizuwa didn’t know if he wanted to play this year. He won’t for the Giants.

The Giants waived the third-year defensive end on Tuesday, one day after he was suspended for the first four games of this season for violating the NFL’s performance-enhancing substances policy.

The 25-year-old out of UCLA had missed the team’s Organized Team Activities and minicamp under mysterious circumstances. He posted tweets this offseason indicating he was stepping away from football, before saying he wasn’t leaving the team. He then reported to training camp and was lost in a backup defensive end shuffle.

Odighizuwa was unproductive in his first two injury-riddled seasons, appearing in 18 total games and making three tackles.

“It is unfortunate that things have gone in this direction,” general manager Jerry Reese said in a statement, “but we wish nothing but the best for Owa as we all move forward.”
