Did Jaylon Smith forget what team he plays for just two days after signing with the Giants?
The New York linebacker appeared to celebrate the Cowboys’ 21-6 victory in the fourth quarter by joining Dallas, his former team, in doing the famous Landry Shift — a tribute to legendary Cowboys coach Tom Landry – to celebrate running out the clock.
Cameras caught Smith appearing to emulate the up-and-down reset move by the Cowboys’ offensive line, before pumping his fist in the air.
Smith also shared pleasant exchanges with various ex-Cowboys teammates throughout the game at MetLife Stadium.
After the loss, Smith posed for photos with his former quarterback Dak Prescott and running back Ezekiel Elliott.
Smith, 26, took 17 snaps and recorded four tackles against his former team.
The former Pro Bowl linebacker played 68 games across six seasons in Dallas. The Cowboys selected him out of Notre Dame with the 34th overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft.
He was cut by the Cowboys after four games this season and had a short stint (two games) in Green Bay, before the Packers cut him last month.
The Giants signed Smith to their practice squad on Friday, and elevated him to the roster amid COVID-19 outbreaks and injuries at inside linebacker. Blake Martinez is on injured reserve, and Reggie Ragland and Benardrick McKinney were battling flu-like symptoms.
The Giants visit the Eagles on Sunday.
