Observations at Giants practice on Monday

Toney winner

WR Sterling Shepard was given off for the team periods, allowing rookie Kadarius Toney extra work in the slot with the starting offense. Toney leaped into the air to haul in a pass over the middle from Daniel Jones, and when Toney landed he was already at full speed, showing the burst he is supposed to add to the attack.

Slips through Slayton

The deep passing game has not been a common sight at camp, and so every time Jones airs one out it is worth watching. He put great touch on a ball down the right sideline and WR Darius Slayton had a step on CB Darnay Holmes. It should have been a long completion for a touchdown but the ball slipped through Slayton’s fingers.

Caught my eye

Saquon Barkley, taking part in his first practice of camp, did not wear a brace on his surgically repaired right knee. He said his surgeon Neil ElAttrache, is not a believer in knee braces. Barkley did wear white leggings under his football shorts.

Medical report

WR Kenny Golladay is out with a strained hamstring but he was on the field, a good sign he is getting close to returning. He did not participate in practice, but during a break he did stand in one place and catch a few passes from Jones.
