So much for the Giants’ prosperity. The good feelings didn’t even extend into the first practice of the week.

Big Blue will be without Kayvon Thibodeaux for at least the next few games, it appears.

The young outside linebacker underwent wrist surgery on Wednesday morning and is being listed as week-to-week, according to coach Brian Daboll.

It’s uncertain how long Thibodeaux will be out. Daboll declined to offer a timeline or say if injured reserve is an option.

It isn’t believed to be a season-ending injury. NFL Network reported the injury is a fractured scaphoid bone in his wrist.

The scaphoid bone is one of the eight small bones in the wrist. It helps coordinate motion and stability in the wrist joint.

Thibodeaux suffered the injury in the win over the Seahawks and was able to finish the game.

“I would just say he’s week-to-week,” Daboll said. “I’m encouraged with what I’ve heard, but you never know.”

Samir Sodha, an assistant professor of orthopedic surgery at Hackensack University Medical Center and the chief of orthopedic hand surgery there, said the scaphoid bone is usually slower to heal than a radial fracture.

“It typically takes about six weeks,” Sodha said in a phone interview. “You can find some evidence of healing in four weeks time.”

Thibodeaux, 23, has two sacks, eight solo tackles and 16 quarterback pressures on the season.

He’s part of a defensive front that leads the NFL with 22 sacks after racking up seven on Sunday, though Thibodeaux hasn’t necessarily been dominant.

His 62.3 pass rushing grade, according to Pro Football Focus, ranks him 66th out of 169 qualified edge rushers. His overall grade of 57.4 is 108th out of 169 edges. Azeez Ojulari will replace Thibodeaux for the time being.

It’s not a particularly good time for the Giants to lose one of their better defensive players.

They have a major test Sunday night against the explosive Bengals of Joe Burrow, Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins. Cincinnati may be 1-4 but is tied for the fourth-most points in the league at 28.0 and has lost four games by a combined 15 points.

“I mean, look, it’s just like the question you asked last week about [Malik] Nabers being down and [Devin Singletary] being down. If he can’t go, then other guys will have to step in and be ready to go and fill those roles,” Daboll said. “That’s why they’re here. To come out here and do what they need to do to be as good as they can be.”

This is a big opportunity for Ojulari, the team’s second-round pick in 2021 who had a big rookie year but has seen his production fall off since.

He lost his starting spot when the Giants traded for Pro Bowler Brian Burns. Ojulari is eligible for free agency after this season.

He does have a sack and six quarterback pressures in a limited role so far this fall.

Ojulari isn’t trying to make too much of the change. He’s been preparing like he was the starter anyway.

Most importantly for him, he’s been healthy so far this year after appearing in just 18 games the previous two seasons.

“Just be ready,” Ojulari said. “I’m always excited to take the field no matter what opportunity I get, no matter what it is, starter or not. I’m always excited to be out there and help this defense win, contribute in any way.”

His teammates believe in him. When he heard the news, Dexter Lawrence texted Ojulari: “It’s your time.”

“I have a lot of confidence in Azeez,” Lawrence said. “He’s been in the league for four years now. He’s made a lot of plays in this league and for this team. This is his opportunity to go take over.

“Just bringing that good pass rush off the edge is what we need, but I don’t think Azeez is a drop-off. He’s very capable of handling his own, and he’s done it for a while. Now he gets more reps to go prove himself.”
