There is a rookie minicamp arriving later this week, and the Giants needed some roster space to sign a few of the undrafted free agents who agreed to terms following the NFL draft. And so on Monday they waived five players, with only one of them — safety Ryan Murphy — having any regular-season experience with the Giants.

Murphy appeared in the final three games last season.

The other players released were guard Damien Mama, receiver Canaan Severin, running back Terrell Watson and punter Austin Rehkow. The Giants signed Rehkow on Jan. 1, but they recently traded for punter Riley Dixon, sending a conditional 2019 seventh-round pick to the Broncos.

The two-day rookie camp opens up Friday, with first-round pick Saquon Barkley and the rest of the 2018 draft class expected to attend.
