Observations from Giants training camp on Friday.
The Will’ to win
Leonard Williams got his big payday in the offseason, but he looks hungry and motivated. He beat Pro Bowl tackle Jack Conklin early in the day and could often be spotted in the Browns’ backfield in close proximity to quarterback Baker Mayfield.
Truly offensive
The first offensive team period was a struggle. LG Shane Lemieux got called for a false-start penalty on the second snap, and a few plays later, FB Eli Penny got blown up by LB Elijah Lee for a negative-yardage run for RB Corey Clement.
Caught my eye
Defensive coordinator Patrick Graham is mixing in several players at inside linebacker. Already this summer, Cam Brown and Carter Coughlin — second-year players who were used at outside linebacker in drills as rookies — were bumped inside. The latest to move inside: Niko Lalos. The experimentation continues.
Giants defensive coordinator Patrick Graham Bill KostrounMedical report
There continues to be a large group, including several marquee players, held out of practice: WR Kenny Golladay, WR Kadarius Toney, WR John Ross, TE Kyle Rudolph (on PUP), LB Elerson Smith, CB Aaron Robinson and S Montre Hartage. TE Cole Hikutini got banged up in the first joint practice. LT Andrew Thomas came off the field at one point and did not return.
