Observations from the Giants’ training camp practice on Sunday.

Playing the slots

Six-year veteran Tre Herndon was with the first-team at slot cornerback as rookie Dru Phillips did not practice.

Herndon had an interception against the Lions but fumbled away the return.

Phillips’ spot usually would have been taken by Nick McCloud, but he already was starting on the perimeter with Cor’Dale Flott expected to miss the week.

Just offensive

Together in a true practice setting for the first time since last Tuesday, the offense looked out of sorts.

Daniel Jones completed 13-of-23 passes.

He hit a couple long touchdowns — one to a leaping Malik Nabers in double coverage and one to Jalin Hyatt in the back corner of the end zone — to salvage something positive, but he didn’t get much mustard on a pass intercepted by Jason Pinnock.

Bobby Okereke nearly had an interception, too.

Caught my eye

The Giants rotated three players between two starting positions on the interior offensive line, sometimes within the same series.

When Austin Schlottmann was at center, Greg Van Roten was at right guard.

When Van Roten was at center, Aaron Stinnie took Schlottmann’s spot.

It was a tease of what’s likely coming — Van Roten at right guard over Stinnie — when center John Michael Schmitz is back in 11-on-11 reps.

Injury report

Nabers left practice early with what the team initially believes is a minor ankle sprain.

RT Evan Neal (first practice of camp) and Schmitz (eight missed practices) returned to individual drills.

TEs Lawrence Cager and Jack Stoll and OLB Tomon Fox are on the mend.

QB Drew Lock (hip pointer/oblique strain), Flott (quad), S Gervarrius Owens (knee) and LB D’yontae Johnson (ankle) did not practice.
