Grading the Giants after their 37-18 loss Monday to the Cowboys.

Offense

One touchdown in five red-zone chances was the story of the game. Cannot settle for field goals when so deep in Dallas territory. Run blocking for Saquon Barkley (14-28) was abysmal and pass protection for Daniel Jones (sacked five times) was shoddy. Mike Remmers had trouble dealing with DeMarcus Lawrence. Jones (26 of 41, 210 yards, 1 TD) had one interception and two more lost fumbles as the turnover follies continue. When Jones (6-54) is the leading rusher something is wrong. Golden Tate had a brilliant one-handed catch.
Grade: D.

Defense

Plenty of bending but not breaking and limiting Cowboys to field goals but gradually this group wore down. No answers for Ezekiel Elliott (23-139) and of course TE Jason Witten (8-58) was a factor. Embarrassing breakdown in the secondary on Amari Cooper’s 45-yard TD. Antoine Bethea had an interception and fumble recovery. Rookie DeAndre Baker had a shaky pass interference penalty. TE Blake Jarwin’s 42-yard catch-and-run TD was not pretty for Alec Ogletree and Janoris Jenkins. Once again, Dak Prescott (22 of 35, 257 yards, 3 TDs) did as he pleased against his favorite defense to exploit.
Grade: C.

Special teams

Aldrick Rosas has to cure what is ailing him. He missed an extra point in the second quarter, his second missed PAT this season. He did hit all four of his field-goal attempts from short range. Cody Latimer broke free for a 50-yard kickoff return to start the second half and on his next return brought one back 41 yards. Eli Penny and Josiah Tauaefa combined to get penalized for a chop-block on the punt team.
Grade: B-minus.

Coaching

Calling three pass plays with 48 seconds remaining in the first half was greedy and unwise by Pat Shurmur and gifted the Cowboys three points. Shurmur apparently is going to keep challenging pass interference calls or non-calls until he wins one of them. James Bettcher’s defense did not register a sack and failed to prevent huge plays in the passing game.
Grade: D.
