Giants Report Card, Week 3
The Giants came close to earning straight A’s after a dominating 24-0 win against the hapless Bucs on Sunday. Brian Costello gives his grades …
QUARTERBACKS A-
Not as much was asked of Eli Manning (14-of-24, 161 yards, 2 TDs) as last week in Dallas; he still came through, including pretty throw to Sinorice Moss for final score.
RUNNING BACKS A
Welcome back, running game. Brandon Jacobs (26 rushes, 92 yards, 1 TD) got things going on first drive, but Ahmad Brad shaw (14, 104) had better day.
WIDE RECEIVERS B
Steve Smith dragged down this grade with three penalties. Still, Smith had 7 catches, 63 yards, 1 TD. Sinorice Moss’s first catch of year was 18-yard TD.
TIGHT ENDS A-
Kevin Boss and Darcy Johnson opened big holes for Jacobs and Bradshaw. Boss’s clipping penalty denies unit an A.
OFFENSIVE LINE A+
Unit answered bell week after failing to open up holes in Dallas. Manning did not get sacked for second straight week.
DEFENSIVE LINE A
Amazingly, they came away without a sack, but they were in Byron Leftwich’s face all day.
LINEBACKERS A
While line kept things locked down up front, LBs made sure anything that slipped through did not go much farther. Bucs did not get first down until third quarter.
SECONDARY A
Hard to tell just how good a game this group had because Leftwich was so awful. But there had to be a reason he couldn’t find any of his receivers. Corey Webster had most tackles (4) on team.
SPECIAL TEAMS B
Bucs had some long returns, but really we’re nitpicking. Bryan Kehl (3 tackles) con tinues to have a nice season.
KICKING GAME B
Did Lawrence Tynes really miss that 21-yarder? He did make 26-yard FG in third, but Giants have to be a little con cerned. Jeff Feagles took hit on one punt, but buried Bucs inside 20 twice.
COACHING A
Tom Coughlin always has his team pre pared. Kudos to Bill Sheridan on his first shutout as defensive coordinator.
