In a potentially significant blow, Giants rookie Tyrone Tracy Jr. had to be carted off the field during Tuesday’s practice after suffering what the team labeled an ankle injury.

The first-year running back muffed a kickoff and went down untouched while attempting to recover the ball.

He will undergo further imaging at the Hospital for Special Surgery.

Tracy, the team’s fifth-round pick out of Purdue, was competing for the second or third running back spot behind starter Devin Singletary and also was seen as a potential kick returner.

He rushed for 26 yards on five carries in the preseason opener against the Lions.
