Andrew Thomas did not practice on Wednesday, but that does not mean he will not be able to make his season debut for the Giants on Sunday against the Cowboys.

Having Thomas sit out the practice is part of the rehab plan set in motion by the training staff, coach Brian Daboll said.

“Hoping to get him out here the next two days and see where he’s at at the end of the week,” Daboll said.

Instead of practicing, Thomas was set to go through running and “some other things,” Daboll said.

Thomas missed the entire preseason recovering from surgery to repair a Lisfranc fracture suffered against the Bengals last October, just six games into the 2024 season.

“I know he feels better,” Daboll said. “He felt better last week, he feels better this week than the week before. He’s making good progress.”

The Giants certainly missed their starting left tackle in their season-opening 21-6 loss to the Commanders.

The offensive line was abysmal, failing to open holes for the run game (30 total yards from three running backs) and failing to adequately protect quarterback Russell Wilson, who was sacked twice and hit eight times.

Thomas’ replacement at left tackle, James Hudson III, did not have a strong showing, which gave him something in common with the other four starters on the line.

WR Malik Nabers was once again listed as limited in practice, as the Giants continue to monitor his workload as he deals with a back issue that first surfaced in training camp.

“He’s out here practicing, so he feels good enough to practice,” Daboll said. “But again, it’s relative to the reps and what we need to do. We’ll do what we think is best for him and for us.”

WR Wan’Dale Robinson, was held out of practice with an ankle issue. “He should be good,’’ Daboll said about Robinson’s availability later in the week. … Nose tackle Dexter Lawrence II was not at practice, as his wife Donna gave birth to the couple’s first child, a daughter. … LB Demetrius Flannigan-Fowles (calf) was limited in practice.

LB Micah McFadden will need foot surgery and will be out quite a while. Daboll said the team is still assessing how long that will be before making a roster move.

Next in line to replace McFadden in the starting lineup is second-year Darius Muasau.

“He’s a smart player for us,” Daboll said. “He’s played a number of spots, I would say. Intelligent player. That’s the job of, quote unquote, a backup, is to be ready to go when your number’s called. He’s done a nice job for us in that regard.”
