A high school football coach in Minnesota is facing a misdemeanor charge for unauthorized computer access after he allegedly logged into the account of a coach he used to work for – who happened to be playing his team the next day.
Tyler Krebs, 45, resigned as Lakeville South High School’s head football coach in September after police received a complaint of suspicious activity on rival Eastview High School’s computer system.
Kelly Sherwin, Eastview’s head coach, said in a complaint filed Thursday that he believed someone from Lakeville High “may have accessed his account and sent the message to confuse the team.”
A message on Sherwin’s team’s website indicated a change in practice times a day before Eastview was set to play Lakeville. Sherwin had to correct the message.
According to the complaint, Krebs admitted to his athletic director that he used Kerwin’s login information – which he got while previously coaching under Kerwin – to access Kerwin’s email account. The complaint also said Krebs sent apologetic voicemails and text messages to Sherwin in which he “acknowledged causing damage to both football programs.”
