What better way to spend the holidays than by watching some NFL football, playing daily fantasy football and winning a boatload of cash? If you want to be the hero this holiday season, hitting a GPP certainly will do the trick. It isn’t easy by any means, but if you can build the right lineup you instantly can change this fantasy season into the best one ever.
One strategy I would recommend highly for those of you still alive in your season league championship games is to plug your opponent’s lineup into a contest to help hedge yourself against them going off. This way even if you lose and are drawing dead by the late afternoon games, you can at least profit from it and ensure your happiness.
Whether you win or lose, remember that this is supposed to be fun. Here is wishing each and every one of you a very happy and healthy holiday season.
Here is the DFS NFL Playbook for Week 16:
QB, Tom Brady, Patriots, vs. Jets
FanDuel: $9,000
DraftKings: $7,700
FantasyAces: $7,150
Breakdown: Brady in cash is back en vogue this week. Coming off a disappointing game in Denver last week, you should expect the Pats to beat up on the Jets and their 31st-ranked secondary.
QB, Philip Rivers, Chargers, at Browns
FD: $8,200
DK: $6,900
FA: $6,800
Breakdown: Know how I just said that the Jets were 31st-ranked secondary in the NFL? Well, the only team worse is Cleveland. The Chargers will be highly motivated to win this game, as nobody wants to be the team that loses to Cleveland this season.
QB, Andrew Luck, Colts, at Raiders
FD: $8,300
DK: $7,000
FA: $7,250
Breakdown: The Raiders give up the third-most passing yards per attempt and the eighth-most passing yards per game. Luck will have Moncrief back this week, which will help — especially in short yardage and goal-line situations.
QB, Drew Brees, Saints, vs. Buccaneers
FD: $8,500
DK: $7,400
FA: $7,650
Breakdown: I missed on Brees last week in Arizona but will not let him escape in his final home game of the season this week. Tampa Bay’s defense has been better over the past few months, but when Brees is locked in at home, he is unstoppable.
QB, Blake Bortles, Jaguars, vs. Titans
FD: $6,200
DK: $5,000
FA: $5,300
Breakdown: My value QB of the week is Blake Bortles. The Titans’ secondary is among if not the worst in the NFL. They surrender the fourth-most passing yards per game and have given up the fourth-most fantasy points to QBs this season.
RB, LeSean McCoy, Bills, vs. Dolphins
FD: $9,100
DK: $9,000
FA: $5,900
Breakdown: By far the best RB on the board for the main slate this week. David Johnson has a real tough matchup, and DeMarco Murray has been getting a decreased workload. So that leaves McCoy against the Dolphins, who have given up a league-worst 5.7 yards per carry over their past three games.
RB, Jordan Howard, Bears, vs. Redskins
FD: $7,200
DK: $6,300
FA: $5,100
Breakdown: The Redskins just got torched by Jonathan Stewart on Monday night,so the Bears will try and duplicate that production with their running game.
RB, Kenneth Farrow, Chargers, at Browns
FD: $6,100
DK: $5,000
FA: $4,800
Breakdown: Farrow disappointed us last week but still is very inexpensive and will have a much lower ownership percentage this week than he did last week.
RB, Todd Gurley, Rams, vs. 49ers
FD: $7,900
DK: $6,500
FA: $4,900
Breakdown: This week looks like it could be the comeback week for many underperforming fantasy players. Gurley is facing a historically bad 49ers run defense, and we will all learn whether or not it is him or simply his surroundings that are to blame for ruining his season.
RB, Mark Ingram, Saints, vs. Buccaneers
FD: $6,300
DK: $4,400
FA: $4,850
Breakdown: Last week Ingram blew up because he didn’t get an opportunity to score the TD for the Saints on the goal line. This week the team likely will make up for that by giving him all of the goal-line work, and then some.
RB, Devonta Freeman, Falcons, at Panthers
FD: $7,800
DK: $7,100
FA: $5,500
Breakdown: The Panthers are the fourth-worst in rushing yards per attempt over his past four games.
RB, Robert Kelley, Redskins, at Bears
FD: $5,800
DK: $5,200
FA: $4,800
Breakdown: Not a sexy play by any means, but Fat Rob has been productive this season. The Bears have given up 5.7 yards per carry to RBs over their past three games.
WR, Mike Evans, Buccaneers, at Saints
FD: $8,900
DK: $8,500
FA: $5,800
Breakdown: The Saints give up the fifth-most passing yards per attempt and the second-most passing yards per game. Evans has been quiet lately, but in the game with the highest expected total, he is in a terrific spot for success.
WR, Michael Thomas, Saints, vs. Buccaneers
FD: $6,900
DK: $6,000
FA: $5,100
Breakdown: On the flip side, Thomas will face off against fellow rookie Vernon Hargreaves III. Thomas has a 5-inch height advantage.
WR, Tyrell Williams, Chargers, at Browns
FD: $6,800
DK: $5,800
FA: $4,650
Breakdown: Williams and Dontrelle Inman are in great spots this week. Williams is the big-play guy, so he works for GPP, and Inman is cheaper and has less upside but is probably better in a cash-game setting.
WR, T.Y. Hilton, Colts, at Raiders
FD: $7,600
DK: $7,800
FA: $5,600
Breakdown: I love this Colts-Raiders game to be a high-scoring, back-and-forth affair. All four primary receivers are in play, and I specifically like matchup against T.J. Carrie for Hilton.
Michael Crabtree makes a TD catch in Week 15.APWR, Allen Robinson, Jaguars, vs. Titans
FD: $5,600
DK: $4,600
FA: $4,400
Breakdown: Another one of my rebound projects here in Week 16. In his past three games against the Titans, Robinson has 37 targets (12.3 per game), 21 receptions (7.0 per game), 336 yards (112.0 per game) and three TDs (1.0 per game).
WR, Michael Crabtree, Raiders, vs. Colts
FD: $6,200
DK: $6,100
FA: $4,850
Breakdown: Not declaring this a Crabtree week officially yet, but I do prefer Crabtree over Cooper a bit thanks to their individual CB matchups. Cooper draws Vonta Davis, and Crabtree will square off against the lowly journeyman Rashan Melvin.
WR, Stefon Diggs, Vikings, at Packers
FD: $6,100
DK: $5,900
FA: $4,500
Breakdown: At this point I am not sure if Diggs will play. But if he does, he will enjoy a very good CB matchup against Quinten Rollins.
WR, Chris Hogan, Patriots, vs. Jets
FD: $5,300
DK: $4,200
FA: $4,000
Breakdown: Julian Edelman also would make a fine option here, but I prefer the big-play upside of Hogan against this terrible Jets secondary.
TE, Greg Olsen, Panthers, vs. Falcons
FD: $6,800
DK: $5,200
FA: $4,550
Breakdown: The best TE on the board in this slate by quite a bit. The Falcons don’t guard TEs well and have given up the fourth-most fantasy points to the position this season.
TE, Cameron Brate, Buccaneers, at Saints
FD: $5,600
DK: $3,900
FA: $4,600
Breakdown: Brate has been the biggest benefactor of Mike Evans regression over the past three weeks. He is fairly priced and should be a cinch to get a 2-3 times a return on his salary price.
TE, Antonio Gates, Chargers, at Browns
FD: $5,400
DK: $4,400
FA: $4,000
Breakdown: Gates is still chasing the TD reception record. The Browns have given up the most fantasy points to the TE position, so he should be able to get quite close if things break well.
TE, Delanie Walker, Titans, at Jaguars
FD: $6,400
DK: $4,300
FA: $4,700
Breakdown: Walker is the only other TE who I really trust at any level this week. I don’t love him in this matchup, but I can’t really support anybody else.
D/ST, San Diego Chargers, at Browns
FD: $4,900
DK: $3,400
FA: $3,000
Breakdown: The Chargers will be the chalk by a country mile this week. The Browns present little challenge to them whatsoever.
D/ST, Houston Texans, vs. Bengals
FD: $4,500
DK: $3,100
FA: $2,750
Breakdown: The Texans have given up the seventh-fewest points at home this season. They also have given up the least yards per game, the second-least passing yards per game, the fourth-fewest passing yards per attempt and are top in fantasy points against QBs, WRs and TEs.
D/ST, New England Patriots, vs. Jets
FD: $5,000
DK: $3,600
FA: $3,400
Breakdown: The Patriots against Bryce Petty is like Santa Claus against a plate of sugar cookies. This game won’t be close.
D/ST, Los Angeles Rams, vs. 49ers
FD: $4,900
DK: $3,500
FA: $3,000
Breakdown: My underdog D/ST for this week is the Rams. Aaron Donald will be able to get to Colin Kaepernick, and the potential of Tavon Austin in the return game is too great for me to ignore.
K, Josh Lambo, Chargers, at Browns
FD: $4,500
DK: N/A
FA: N/A
Breakdown: How can a kicker for a full TD road favorite be minimum priced in DFS? This is an easy play for this week and will absolutely be the chalk of the week at kicker.
K, Stephen Gostkowski, Patriots, vs. Jets
FD: $4,800
DK: N/A
FA: N/A
Breakdown: If you have the extra salary left over, consider paying up for Gostkowski. The Pats are 16 point favorites, and Gostkowski should be able to go for a three times a return against the Jets.
K, Ryan Succop, Titans, at Jaguars
FD: $4,500
DK: N/A
FA: N/A
Breakdown: Succop is also minimum priced and in a great spot for FGs against the Jags.
K, Sebastian Janikowski, Raiders, vs. Colts
FD: $5,000
DK: N/A
FA: N/A
Breakdown: Big leg at home in what is supposed to the highest scoring game of the entire week.
