Jaguars owner Shad Khan addressed how he’ll approach Urban Meyer’s future as head coach amid reports of troubling dysfunction within the team after a sluggish 2-11 record.

“I want to do the right thing for the team. I want to do the right thing for the city,” Khan said Monday. “That, to me, is way more important than just acting helter-skelter on emotion. I think we have a history of really looking at the facts and then really doing the right thing.”

Khan named former Jaguars coaches he was patient with in the past.

“Gus Bradley was here four years. Doug Marrone was here four years. It was wins and losses and this is a little bit different but, you know, I’m going to reflect on all of that and do what’s the right thing for the team and the right thing for the city,” Khan said.

Khan met with Meyer after Jacksonville’s 20-0 loss to the Titans on Sunday. The meeting came amid reports, via anonymous sources, that Meyer’s relationship with his coaching staff is strained. He also reportedly got into a verbal spat with veteran Marvin Jones over criticisms about the receivers.

On Sunday, Meyer denied the reported tensions within the Jaguars organization, calling the stories “nonsense.” He also denied calling his assistant coaches “losers.”

Meyer added that whoever is “leaking” stories is at risk for losing their job.

Khan said he won’t make an “impulsive” coaching decision, despite the ugly results.

“I learned that a long time ago with anything that’s this important. You don’t want to be impulsive. You want to look at exactly what I know firsthand or people are telling me and then collect that and do the right thing,” he said.

Khan acknowledged that the attention on the Jaguars is much more intense because of Meyer’s presence.

“In the past it was like you were, quote, it’s like the lowly Jaguars, and everyone left you alone. Now the scrutiny we have is really something different. How much of that is we’re bringing it upon ourselves, or how much of that is deserved?” Khan said.

“Urban, he won wherever he was. This is something he’s never dealt with. And when you win in football you create enemies, OK, and the only way you can really deal with that is you’ve got to win again.”

One potential deterrent to cutting ties with Meyer is the splashy six-year contract — estimated to pay him $10-$12 million per season — that Khan used to lure the 57-year-old college coaching legend out of retirement this offseason.

The Jaguars have lost five straight since beating Buffalo on Nov. 7, and rookie quarterback Trevor Lawrence is struggling to keep the offense afloat.

The string of reports came after Meyer made headlines in October for his extra-curricular activities outside Jacksonville.

The former Ohio State coach went viral on social media after photos emerged showing him at an Ohio bar with a 24-year-old woman on his lap. His wife Shelley was at home watching their grandkids during her husband’s night out, she said on Twitter at the time.

“I assured [Khan] that I still believe in my heart that we will [turn the franchise around],” Meyer said about his meeting with the owner. “It hasn’t exactly materialized the way I expected it to have, the experience of winning games. I knew that this was somewhat of a build. I also really believe that we have plenty of good enough players to go win games. I still believe that.”

Jacksonville plays host to Houston (2-11) on Sunday.
