Jalen Ramsey said Bengals receiver Ja’Marr Chase spit on him before the Steelers defensive back threw the punch that got him tossed from Sunday’s game.

Ramsey had to be escorted off the field by a Steelers staffer, and offensive lineman Broderick Jones was seen trying to calm his teammate down before Ramsey left for the locker room.

After the Steelers’ 34-12 win, Ramsey told reporters Chase spit on him.

“I don’t give a f–k about football after that, respectfully,” Ramsey said.

Chase denied Ramsey’s accusation.

“I never opened my mouth to that guy,” Chase told reporters. “I didn’t spit on nobody.”

The chippiness between Ramsey and Chase had been brewing as the game went along.

CBS analyst Trent Green opined on the broadcast that Ramsey should have been penalized for what Green perceived as a late hit on Chase during the second quarter.

On that play, Bengals quarterback Joe Flacco was off the mark on a pass to Chase, and Ramsey appeared to take a couple of extra steps to hit Chase.

But things got even more heated early in the fourth.

Ramsey and Chase got into it following a no-gain rush by the Bengals’ Kendall Milton.

Each was assessed offsetting penalties for unsportsmanlike conduct.

But Ramsey and Chase got helmet-to-helmet only moments later.

Ramsey appeared to grab Chase’s facemask and then hit the receiver with his right hand.

Chase didn’t retaliate, and Ramsey was ejected for the altercation with a little more than 12 minutes left in the fourth.

The Bengals earned a first down because of the penalty and ultimately ended that drive with Evan McPherson nailing a 43-yard field goal to trim the Steelers’ lead to eight.

It’s been overall a light day for Chase, who had registered only 14 yards receiving on two catches.

Ramsey, a 10-year veteran who’s in his first season with the Steelers, recorded two tackles and two assisted tackles before his exit.
