The dreaded “non-contact” injury has struck again, this time with Chiefs star Jamaal Charles.

The running back tried to cut back on Sunday while deep in Chicago territory in the third quarter, but his leg appeared to come up lame. After his cut, his right leg appeared to buckle.

He went sprawling to the ground and grabbed at his right knee. He exited the field with help, not putting any pressure on that leg, in a game Kansas City led 17-3 at the time. The Bears would roar back in the fourth quarter for an 18-17 victory.

After the game, Chiefs coach Andy Reid told reporters that the initial report was their worst fear — a torn ACL.

Charles, one of the game’s premier running backs, had run for 58 yards on 12 carries before the injury. The Chiefs later announced he would not return to the game.
