The Seahawks don’t own a first-round pick in this year’s NFL Draft because of their 2020 trade for Jamal Adams.

Seattle coach Pete Carroll said Wednesday that he views the 25-year-old Adams as a “heck of a pick,” and GM John Schneider added the team still is seeking to work out a long-term deal with the former Jets safety.

“We’re going to be celebrating Jamal [Thursday] evening for sure,” Schneider said. “We want him to be here long-term, for sure.

“He’s a great player, really glad we made the trade to get him, and he’s going to be a very important part of our future.”

Unable to reach agreement on an extension with Adams – the No. 6 overall pick in 2017 — the Jets dealt him to Seattle with a 2022 fourth-round pick for first-round picks this year and next year, plus a 2021 third-rounder and safety Bradley McDougald.

Adams, who is slated to play out the fifth-year option worth $9.86 million this season, racked up 9.5 sacks in 12 games for the Seahawks in 2020, an NFL record for defensive backs.
