Jay Cutler is back, and you won’t have to tune in to reality television to catch some of the witty and ornery quarterback.
The former Pro Bowler has met with ESPN and CBS about a future in broadcasting, The Big Lead is reporting. With the success of Tony Romo in the booth, recently retired players have become more popular targets, and Cutler already has a following thanks to his reality TV star wife Kristin Cavallari and some of his antics on their “Very Cavallari” show.
Cutler was set to work for Fox in 2017, on its No. 2 NFL team alongside Kevin Burkhardt and Charles Davis. Then, a month before the season, he returned to the NFL to play for the Dolphins. Now it appears he’s trying to get back involved in broadcasting. This time, his playing days are well over.
It comes at an interesting time with Romo heading to free agency after three celebrated years at CBS. The Post’s Andrew Marchand reports that ESPN is planning to make a significant run at Romo for “Monday Night Football” with CBS prepared to pay a heavy price to keep the former Cowboys quarterback.
Cutler also might not be the only ex-player contemplating a broadcasting chance. Drew Brees, Philip Rivers, Eli Manning and Greg Olsen are all potential TV targets.
