Fresh of their first win in six weeks, the Dallas Cowboys now are talking about running the table.

With Andy Dalton back at quarterback on Sunday, the Cowboys pulled out a 31-28 victory over Minnesota to pull even with the Giants and the Washington Football Team at 3-7, a half-game behind the first-place Philadelphia Eagles in the NFC East.

With six more games remaining beginning with a Thanksgiving showdown with Washington, linebacker Jaylon Smith believes Dallas can win out to finish 9-7.

“We’re going to go 7-0,” Smith boasted after Sunday’s game.

The Cowboys do have the easiest remaining schedule of the four NFC East teams, with only one game remaining — Dec. 3 against Baltimore (6-4) — against an opponent currently with a winning record.

Still, Sunday’s win out of the bye week marked Dallas’ first since defeating the Giants, 37-34, on Oct. 11. That was the game in which starting quarterback Dak Prescott was lost for the season with a compound fracture of his right ankle.

“This is clearly the most rounded performance and victory that we’ve had this year,” coach Mike McCarthy said after Sunday’s win, his team’s first on the road this season. “It took us a little longer to get here today, but I clearly think the journey will make us stronger. We need to do something with this win. We need to build off this win. It needs to mean something.”

The Cowboys were crushed, 25-3, at Washington on Oct. 25, but a win Thursday might vault them into first place in the East.

“We never thought we were out of it,” running back Ezekiel Elliott said. “We are right there where we need to be. We are right there to go win the division.

“We’ve got to build on the success.”
