If Jamal Adams leaves the Jets, he likely won’t end up playing in Jerry World.
As rumors circulate whether Adams wants to remain with the Jets long-term — and whether the Jets want to make the 24-year-old the league’s highest-paid safety, when the former first round pick can remain under team control through 2022 — longtime star-chasing Cowboys owner Jerry Jones appears unlikely to be among the bidders for the safety’s services.
“Probably unlikely to make a draft-pick trade for an established star,” Jones said in a conference call with local reporters. “Highly unlikely.”
The Pro Bowl safety, who last season blew off meetings with coach Adam Gase and general manager Joe Douglas after being part of potential trade talks, was the subject of a massive with Dallas last season. In one scenario, Douglas reportedly asked for the Cowboys first round pick, plus a pair of second rounders. In another potential deal for Adams, the Jets asked for a first round pick, third day pick and five-time Pro Bowl guard Zack Martin, which Dallas declined.
When Adams heard of the possibility of being traded last year, the Texas native admitted his preference would be to join the Cowboys.
“I would love to go to [the Cowboys],” Adams said. “I am born and raised in Dallas.”
