The Jets addressed their depth at cornerback Friday, agreeing to bring back Arthur Maulet.
Maulet will return on a one-year deal, his agency tweeted. The 26-year-old played in 12 games and made six starts for the Jets last season at an injury-ravaged position. Maulet played pretty well. He had one interception and two passes defended against. He was a strong tackler and seemed to fit Gregg Williams’ system.
Maulet was scheduled to be a restricted free agent, but the Jets did not tender him, making him an unrestricted free agent.
The Jets are thin at cornerback. They released Trumaine Johnson this week after a disastrous two-year stint. They re-signed slot corner Brian Poole to a one-year, $5 million deal, but still need to address the position. At the moment, their top outside corners are Maulet, Bless Austin, Nate Hairston and Darryl Roberts.
