In the days leading up to tomorrow’s NFL Draft, we have examined the draft position-by-position through the eyes of the Jets. We conclude with a look at special teams.

Losses from last year:

Mike Nugent – Injured in the first game last year, the 2005 second-round pick is now playing for the Buccaneers.

Who’s on the roster:

Jay Feely – The veteran kicker had a good season after replacing Nugent in the second week. He made 24-of-28 field goals for the Jets, so they re-signed him this winter.

Reggie Hodges – Replaced Ben Graham last year and averaged 42.8 yards per game. The Jets are not sold on him being the long-term punter.

Eric Wilbur – Brought in to push Hodges.

Best in the draft:

Patrick McAfee – The West Virginia kicker made 17-of-20 field goal attempts last year and was excellent on kickoffs.

Kevin Huber – Cincinnati punter was skilled at pinning opponents inside their 20-yard line.

The Post Plan:

The Jets need to shore up the punting situation, but not in the draft. They can sign some undrafted free agents and have a competition over the summer.
