The Jets signed veteran defensive lineman Steve McLendon to a one-year contract extension on Saturday through 2020.
McLendon, 33, was scheduled to become a free agent after this season. Terms were not immediately available. McLendon has been with the Jets since 2016 and has become a favorite of new coach Adam Gase.
The 310-pounder has started every game this season. He has 11 tackles, three for a loss, a sack and two quarterback hits.
McLendon originally signed a three-year, $12 million deal with the Jets in 2016 after spending the first six years of his career with the Steelers. He was undrafted out of Troy. The Jets signed McLendon to a one-year, $2.5 million deal before this season.
Gase has praised McLendon’s play and his leadership. McLendon is one of the Jets’ captains and one of their most vocal leaders.
