Move over Mark Gastineau. The Jets have a new sack master in Jamal Adams.

The safety has six sacks this season, five in the past two games, and now has his sights set on the sack record for defensive backs, which is eight by the Cardinals’ Adrian Wilson in 2005.

“If you’re asking: Am I going to beat the record? Yes, I will beat the record,” Adams said Wednesday. “That’s something that I will get.”

Adams has been an aggressive blitzer the past two weeks. He caused two fumbles by Giants rookie quarterback Daniel Jones two weeks ago, one resulting in a touchdown for Adams. Then, he sacked Redskins rookie Dwayne Haskins three times Sunday.

Adams said he has been doing some of the blitzing on his own.

“I’m just taking an educated guess, put it like that. Sometimes I anticipate right and sometimes I don’t,” Adams said. “Lately I have, so I’ve been getting lucky.”

The Jets don’t face a rookie quarterback this week. Derek Carr might take advantage of the Jets if Adams gets overly aggressive. Still, Adams says he won’t back off.

“I don’t play this game to be careful,” Adams said. “I’ve got to be smart, I’ll put it like that. Obviously, I know what type of offense Jon Gruden likes to run. I have a lot of respect for those guys and what he does and what he brings to the game. … They’re going to watch film and understand what we’ve put out as a defense the last two weeks, so we’ve got to be smart and play our brand of football.”

Coach Adam Gase said he has gained a lot of respect for veteran tackle Kelvin Beachum and the way he has fought through injury this season. Beachum missed three games with a high-ankle sprain but has played the past two weeks. He reinjured the ankle Sunday but practiced on a limited basis Wednesday.

“The fact that he was constantly pushing to get back to the practice field was impressive,” Gase said. “I think it sends a positive message to the locker room of how much he wants to be out there.”

Gase said he is unsure if ILB C.J. Mosley (groin) will return this season.

“We’re going through that process,” Gase said. “We’ll see where it takes us. I don’t know the answer to that.”

Mosley has played in just two games.

RT Chuma Edoga (ankle) did not practice. Gase said he is day-to-day. … S Matthias Farley (quad), Mosley, CB Darryl Roberts (calf) and LB Paul Worrilow (quad) also did not practice. DL Henry Anderson (shoulder), Beachum, LB Brandon Copeland (hip/thumb), LB Neville Hewitt (neck/knee), LG Alex Lewis (elbow, shoulder), DL Steve McLendon (neck) and WR Demaryius Thomas (hamstring) were limited.
