No sooner had the Jets finished singing Spencer Shrader’s praises than he was gone from their roster.
The kicker carousel — which will bring the Jets to their fourth kicker in the past four games come Sunday — took its wildest spin yet Thursday when the Chiefs signed Shrader off the Jets’ practice squad in news that became public at 4:32 p.m.
About 25 minutes earlier, special teams coordinator Brant Boyer spoke about how Shrader made both of his field-goal attempts in his Jets debut as a game-day roster elevation.
Spencer Shrader is heading to the Chiefs. AP“Kid’s got a lot of talent,” Boyer said. “I think he handled it well, doing what we asked him to do and syncing up with those guys and doing a good job in the game.”
The Jets offered Shrader a spot on their 53-man roster to fend off the Chiefs’ interest, as first reported by ESPN and confirmed by The Post, but Shrader instead chose to join the undefeated two-time defending Super Bowl champions as a fill-in for the injured Harrison Butker.
So, the Jets will turn to another practice-squad elevation: Anders Carlson, who went 5-for-5 on field goals for the 49ers earlier this season.
Carlson was a sixth-round pick of the Packers in 2023 but was cut after one shaky season.
The Jets put formerly reliable veteran Greg Zuerlein on injured reserve after he converted just 9 of 15 field goals through eight games and pivoted to Riley Patterson.

“We are just trying to find the best guy,” Boyer said. “That is where it all comes down to.”
Since Todd Downing took over play calling for the team, rookie Braelon Allen has 28 carries in five games.
Consider it an imperfect storm of trying to keep others happy with their touches, not enough short-yardage situations where a 236-pound running back can make a difference and too much time spent trailing.
Jets running back Braelon Allen (0) practices in Florham Park, NJ. Bill Kostroun/New York Post“As you start to play with a lead more, if we can build a lead, you start to be able to empty the chamber a little bit more on the run-play list,” Downing said. “Also, taking Breece [Hall] off the field when he’s getting going isn’t something we’re looking for reasons to do, either. There’s a delicate balance there.”
Allen’s 170 yards from scrimmage and two touchdowns from Weeks 2-4 suggested he was in for a bigger-than-expected workload. His pace — and level of opportunity — slowed as the Jets lost five of six games.
“We love what Braelon is doing,” Downing said. “I cannot speak higher of a young player that does everything we ask him to do with a smile on his face and great team energy. As we start being a little more efficient on offense, he’ll get more opps.”
WR Davante Adams (wrist, illness), LT Tyron Smith (neck), OL Jake Hanson (hamstring) and LB C.J. Mosley (neck) did not practice. Adams was spotted in the locker room.
CB Brandin Echols (concussion) was upgraded to limited participant for the first time this week, which gives him a chance to clear the NFL-regulated protocol by Sunday.
DT Solomon Thomas (knee) was upgraded to limited.
