Michael Carter II has had a nice season for the Jets, but the cornerback had two big penalties last week in the loss to the Bills that he was upset about.

Carter was flagged for holding on Buffalo’s touchdown drive just before halftime. Then, he was hit with a pass interference call on their third-quarter touchdown drive, a penalty that gave the Bills 18 yards and put them in the red zone.

“The first one, I understood the holding one,” Carter said. “The second one, I didn’t really understand that one. I was looking back for the ball and all that stuff. I didn’t necessarily agree with that one. I took it as a learning lesson. Going back and watching the whole game and what I can improve on is getting back to the little things in my technique and stuff like that to keep myself out of those situations.”

Carter took to Twitter on Monday morning following the 20-12 loss at Buffalo.

“Back to work!” he tweeted. “Gonna do everything I can to learn from my mistakes and be at my best these last 4 games.”

Carter has been overshadowed by the play of fellow corners Sauce Gardner and D.J. Reed, but the second-year player from Duke has done well as the Jets’ slot corner. He is ranked 16th among all cornerbacks by Pro Football Focus and has a 78.5 quarterback rating against.

Carter has two interceptions and eight passes defensed. One of his interceptions came in the fourth quarter against the Steelers and helped set up the win. Carter had another memorable interception wiped out by penalty. He picked off the Patriots’ Mac Jones just before halftime in the first meeting with New England. Carter returned the interception for a touchdown, but John Franklin-Myers was controversially called for roughing the passer, wiping out the pick.

The Jets have no takeaways in their past two games, something Carter said has to change.

“Takeaways, the turnover ratio, is important. It helps win games for sure,” Carter said. “The ball is always an emphasis for us every week. Really, we just have to go out there and take it and be deliberate in our shots at the ball and take those chances. We definitely have to come up with some for sure and get back to what we were doing.”

Safety Lamarcus Joyner was added to the injury report as questionable with a hip injury. Joyner is the only Jet who has played every defensive snap this season.

The Jets signed LB Hamsah Nasirildeen to the active roster. They also signed S Will Parks to the practice squad. Parks and DL Tanzel Smart have been elevated for Sunday’s game with the Lions.
