The Jets’ kicking saga will get another chapter.
They signed Anders Carlson to the practice squad and released Riley Patterson on Friday, with Greg Zuerlein already on injured reserve.
But Spencer Shrader — also on the practice squad — will likely kick when the Jets face the Cardinals on Sunday, head coach Jeff Ulbrich said.
Patterson won the six-man kicking competition last week that was prompted by Zuerlein’s struggles, and he made all three of his extra points during the Jets’ Week 9 win.
Shrader, a rookie, has appeared in one game with the Colts this year and made all three of his extra points.
“Just looking for a live leg,” Ulbrich said of the Carlson move. “So we brought a guy in that’s got a live leg that’s kicked in the NFL, and we think Spencer Shrader, same, has a live leg. So that’s ultimately what it came down to was the strength of the leg.”

He was their kicker for Week 1 but didn’t attempt a field goal.
Carlson, though, wasn’t even involved in the Jets’ original tryout last week.
The former Packer and sixth-round pick in 2023 had landed in San Francisco earlier in October, bouncing back and forth between the 49ers’ practice squad and active roster for two games.
Carlson connected on all five of his field goals — with four from at least 40 yards — and made three of his four extra-point attempts.

As a rookie with Green Bay, he went 27-for-33 on field goals and missed five of his 39 extra points, too, and those struggles prompted the Packers to make a change before the 2024 season began.
