Grading the Jets following Sunday’s 31-28 loss to the Raiders.
Offense
They started strong and then came with two scores in the fourth quarter to make things interesting, but three second-quarter turnovers hurt. QB Sam Darnold (14 of 23, 186 yards, 2 TDs, 1 INT, 2 fumbles) played better than last week but those turnovers. RB Ty Johnson (22, 104 yards, 1 TD) is the first Jets running back to gain 100 yards in more than two years. The line did a good job in the running game but rookie OT Mekhi Becton gave up two sacks that led to fumbles.

Defense
The Jets had no answers for Raiders TE Darren Waller (13 catches, 200 yards, 2 TDs) and then defensive coordinator Gregg Williams lost his mind on the final call of the game. Williams called a cover-zero blitz, leaving undrafted rookie Lamar Jackson in single coverage on Raider speedy WR Henry Ruggs III and Derek Carr hit him for a 46-yard touchdown with five seconds left. Carr (28 of 47, 381 yards, 3 TDs, 1 INT) did a good job of taking what the Jets gave him.

Gregg Williams Corey SipkinSpecial teams
The Jets did not get much impact out of their special teams again this week. Punter Braden Mann averaged 45.5 yards per punt and did a nice job on the final punt of the game not allowing a return. Kicker Sergio Castillo missed an extra point, his second straight week with a miss. Corey Ballentine had a 33-yard kick return and set the Jets up with decent field position.

Coaching
Williams lost this game for the Jets. His decision to dial up an all-out blitz on the Raiders’ game-winning touchdown is mind-blowing. The Jets had four rookies in their secondary, including Jackson, who gave up the 46-yard touchdown to Henry Ruggs. To give him no help is criminal.
